Therapeutic Behavioral Services |
What is TBS?
Therapeutic Behavioral Services are a one-to-one behavioral mental health service available to youth under age 21 who are eligible for full scope Medi-Cal. Youth must meet certain requirements to be eligible for TBS. One such requirement is that the youth’s behaviors are possibly placing them at significant risk of an out of home placement in a psychiatric, juvenile justice or high level foster/group home placement.
Therapeutic Behavioral Services can help youth and parents/caregivers, foster parents and group home staff members learn new ways of reducing and managing challenging behaviors as well as strategies and skills to increase the kinds of behavior that will allow youth to be successful in their current environment.
Therapeutic Behavioral Services are designed to help youth and parents/caregivers (when available) manage these behaviors utilizing short-term, measurable goals based on the needs of the youth and family. Therapeutic Behavioral Services are always used in conjunction with another mental health service.
