As implied by the name, the Special Victims Unit conducts unique criminal investigations for a special segment of victims. Predominately in all SVU investigations the perpetrator is intra-familial. Our victims are more vulnerable because of the trust and control established between family members.

Child Abuse / Child Molest - (530) 538-7411


Conducts initial and follow-up investigations on all intra-familial physical and sexual abuse cases occurring in the unincorporated areas of the county. Three investigators are assigned and they receive approximately 800 referrals per year.

 

SRVP: Statutory Rape Vertical Prosecution

 

One investigator is assigned to review all allegations of statutory rape and assist the prosecutor in obtaining evidence for prosecution.

CART: Child Abuse Response Team

 

SVU Investigators and the SVU Lieutenant (CART Coordinator) along with local law enforcement, prosecutors and social workers participate in this team approach to conducting child abuse investigations.

SART: Sexual Assault Response Team

 

When needed for the collection of evidence, specially trained Forensic Nurses will conduct a physical examination of the victims.

NCA: National Children’s Alliance

 

NCA is a non-profit organization that provides equipment and training funds for the further advancement of child abuse investigations


Child Death Review Team

 

SVU Investigators participate in a multi-disciplinary team that reviews all child death cases in the county.

Investigator assigned is funded 50% from the SAPP grant and 50% from the VAW-VP grant. The investigator provides trial support to approximately eight prosecutors assigned to vertically prosecute these cases. In addition, an advocate/counselor is also funded to meet the victim’s needs and conduct outreach.

Child Abduction Unit - (530) 538-6540


Investigator assigned conducts investigations into parental abductions, violations of established court orders regarding custody and visitation and is experienced in understanding and verifying family law orders. The program is supported by an investigative assistant and legal secretary.
 

Bad Checks - (530) 538-7089


 - Provides assistance to local business in collecting on bad checks.
 - Prosecute the serious offenders.
 - Provides outreach, training and education to merchants and bad check writers.
